We all take it for granted that wedding dresses should be white but this is only a matter of opinion. Back in the eighteen hundreds a white wedding dress was worn by Queen Victoria and she passed this tradition down as brides before her wore wedding dresses that were not white and it was the radiance of Victoria’s dress that set the trend and has remained so till today.

There was a time when bride to be had to make do with whatever best outfit they had as this period was during the time of depression in the nineteen hundreds and there were those that were more fortunate in that they were able to wear a white wedding dress but they would also change the color of the dress once the ceremony was over and some even got married in their military uniforms but once the war was behind everyone people went back to the reality of wearing the most favored fairy tale Victorian wedding dresses.
A bride to be will now choose a wedding dress that depicts her personality and her individuality and will also choose a color that will blend in with the occasion which may not be white. Bespoke gowns are still popular using layers of pure lace as well as exquisite trimming like pearls etc which adorn the finished garment and another option is to buy a gown off the rack.
