Nearly every time I have to travel, well, anywhere with my portable laptop computer, I long for a netbook. Those who live the good life know that one way to do that is to keep things convenient, and netbooks are nothing if not convenient. Netbooks, also known as ultra portable laptops, are a class of micro-pcs that are designed to be half the weight, size, and cost of traditional laptops.
Since they were introduced to the market, sales for netbooks have been skyrocketing, and some research groups have predicted that this year alone 35 million netbooks will be made, and-9 million netbooks will be shipped worldwide annually no later than the year 2013. Considering that these machines weren’t developed until 2007, that’s pretty impressive growth!
A netbook is not simply a small version of the portable laptop you already own. Ultra portable laptops are made to focus on what most people spend the majority of time doing on their computers – surfing the internet, checking out pictures, and watching videos. A small amount of processing might be possible, as well, but they’re certainly not for big projects.
If you require more services than these from your computer, then you’ll have to look elsewhere. Those who spend their time travelling, be it for business, pleasure, or both, will love the convenience of the new netbooks.
When compared to a regular portable laptop, netbooks are priced lower. The majority of decent netbooks will cost you around $500, though some are priced at half of that amount. Online services such as google docs and other similar programs allow users to deal with the lack of memory a netbook comes equipped with.
In addition, netbooks make a perfect travelling companion – they can go anywhere thanks to their compact size and low weight, and they are Wi-Fi equipped. Many who travel for longer periods of time, like backpackers, for example, choose a netbook over a regular portable laptop computer as it is easier to carry and keeps them out of internet cafes.
Invest a little of your time, and make sure you do your homework before running off to buy a netbook. Certain brands offer different features, so it is important to know exactly what you want out of your machine.
You should also think about what, exactly, you’ll be using your netbook for. Some are designed more for photos and simply surfing the web, and tend to lag a bit during high-def videos. Some screens are larger on certain models.
Having a solid idea of exactly what you need a netbook for, and knowing what’s available to meet those needs, will make your decision much easier. In addition, doing a little research first will help guarantee that you are getting the most enjoyment possible out of your new ultra portable laptop computer.
