It must be common knowledge among all the ATV enthusiasts that to achieve the best performance from your vehicle, getting the right tire is a must. In the market, various types of ATV tires are available. They may be the gigantic mud tires, the high-grip race tires, the O.E type tires or the trail tires. To find out the ply- rating, check the number of stars embedded in the sidewall of the tire. Each star represents a rating of 2 ply. So a tire with three stars on its sidewall would have a rating of 6-ply.
Taking in account the air pressure inside the tires is necessary if you want a smooth drive. Go for the pressure value as stated by your manufacturer rather than running the maximum air pressure which is given on the sidewall of the tire. To attain good mileage, optimal air pressure is important. Check for punctures or cracks or impact damage if you are experiencing air loss in your ATV tires. An old valve stem or an unfastened valve core can also be the causes of air loss in your tires. Therefore, valve stem and valve core should be checked for leakage.
The sizing of the ATV tires uses a general format of AT25 x 10-12. The dash can be replaced by the letter “R” which represents the radial construction of the tire. The first number will give the overall diameter of the tire and the second number gives the section width. Wheel diameter is given by the third number. Inches are used as the units of measurement. These numbers are merely approximations and originally, the sizes may differ in individual tires.
Maintenance of air pressure is essential to prevent cracking of side wall or premature wear of the tires. Regular visual inspections should be made on the tires.
